Battlefields Trip March 26th-28th 2015

The Science department is very pleased to be offering the whole year group a fantastic trip to the Science Museum in London on Thursday 2nd April 2015.

The Year 7 trip to the Natural History museum in December was a huge success, so we hope that this is echoed in the upcoming Year 8 trip. Letters and consent/medical forms were handed out to all students in assembly this week, so can we please ask that the forms and the £15 payment are returned to reception by the deadline of Friday 13th March.

Students will be leaving the school promptly at 8.00am on the day so will be required to be on the school site at 7.45am. We will endeavour to be back at school at 6.00pm. further information can be found in the letter. If students were absent they should ask their Science teacher for a copy of the letter.

Should you have any queries, please contact Miss Fallon, Head of Science on a.fallon@fareham-academy.co.uk

World Book Day, 5th March

The English department have got an exciting range of events running for World Book Day on 5th March, including:
A non-uniform day in which we encourage students to dress up as their favourite fictional characters. Fancy dress is not obligatory but the donation of £1 is, otherwise normal school uniform must be worn. This year, we are going to split the money raised between Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and The British Heart Foundation. We have decided to donate half the proceeds to the BHF, following their recent support to one of our English teachers, Mrs Appleton, and her family following her daughter’s heart surgery.

Extreme Reading: Extreme Reading is a photographic competition for the most obscure and entertaining place that the pupils and staff can be caught reading. Entries can be taken anywhere and everywhere, around the world or at home! The more extreme, the better.

Entries should be sent to: s.lowry@fareham-academy.co.uk and in doing so, students consent to their image being used in a display at school.  A prize of an amazon voucher is up for grabs!

Year 9 Options Booklet

Year 9 students have been given Option Booklets to help them decide which subjects they wish to study in Year 10 and 11. The booklet can also be viewed by clicking the image above.

Option forms are due in on Wednesday 25th February and should be handed in to tutors.

Year 9 Magistrate Court Competition

On the first week back after half term we will be starting our in house competition to establish a team to take to Portsmouth Magistrate Court and compete in the regional heat.

The team will be looking in to a criminal case, all taking up their own jobs, ranging from the judge all the way to the defendant.  This is great opportunity for those considering Law as an option!

Year 10 Mock Week

There is a Year 10 mock week planned for 20th-24th April 2015.
All students will be sitting mock exams in most of their subjects. A timetable will be released nearer to the time.

Year 10 students will be given more details by their teachers on what to revise, but they must take responsibility to begin revising at home.
Many revision methods will make excellent iTasks.

Please encourage your child to prepare for these mock exams at home as well as in school.
