Year 11 Seminar at Horndean Technology College

On April 23rd  38 year 11 students attended a Candle Education Seminar held at Horndean Technology College relating to their religious education exam. Fareham Academy proudly had the largest number of students attending the seminar and each and every student did the Academy proud in their overall conduct throughout the day.  It was a pleasure to take our students off site and represent the Academy in front of the prestigious speaker, Dr Peter Vardy.

St. Georges Day Assembly

Mr Patel led an assembly exploring the legend of St George today with the Year 7s. Mr Patel will also be leading an assembly tomorrow for Year 8 and 9 on St George too. Happy St George’s Day everyone!

Year 7, Trips to France

Today we are excited to announce two excellent opportunities for our current Year 7s to visit France next academic year. Students have the choice of the Château Beaumont trip (March 2016) and/or the French Exchange to Puy En Velay (September 2015 and May 2016). We expect both trips to be oversubscribed and places will be given on a first come, first served basis. Please see the letters and medical forms below for more information.

Update from the Global Campus Trip

Students have explored and evaluated common misconceptions about Italian food and learnt that a pepperoni pizza is actually a pepper pizza with no meat!

They have also had a go at Korean traditional handwriting and written their names in Korean. Anna said ‘I love learning different alphabets they are so pretty.’

We competed in a Senegalese dance off check out our practice video!

A number of lucky students (see list here) have been selected to attend a fantastic conference for Year 11 students taking GCSE RS. This is a perfect revision opportunity for any students aiming to get a C or above.

The day will be led by the eminent Dr Peter Vardy, and has been specially added to Candle Conferences’ schedule to give schools in our area the chance to have some stunning revision and enrichment. This conference will really make a difference to their final GCSE grade. The conference is taking place on Thursday 23rd April at Horndean Technology College.  Students will attend Fareham Academy at the normal time. We will be travelling by coach and this has been paid for by Fareham Academy. We will return to Fareham Academy by approximately 4pm depending on traffic.

Attendance on the conference costs £15 per student but Fareham Academy has secured the funding so there will no cost for this excellent opportunity.

Students will need to wear full school uniform and ensure they have the correct equipment to make notes. Students should bring a packed lunch including a suitable drink.

Please return the reply slip on this letter.

Dear Parent/Carers,

I am writing to inform you that Nadine Powrie, Headteacher, will be leaving the school at the end of the summer.  She has been offered, subject to contract and the usual checks, a Headship of a school in London with a sixth form and she has accepted this offer. I am sure that you will join me in congratulating and wishing her all the very best in her new Headship.

Nadine has made a huge contribution to Fareham Academy with our results improving year on year and she has recruited very loyal, hardworking and committed staff.  She will be leaving the school in a strong position to move forward and the governors have recognised and thanked her for everything that she has done.  I’m sure that there will be a further opportunity before the end of the summer term to reflect on Nadine’s contributions and thank her in a more traditional manner.

The Governors have met and have agreed to put in place a temporary Acting Headteacher from the 1st September, further details will be released in due course. This will give the school a period of stability and time for the governors to reflect on our strategic plans for the future before we go to an open recruitment for a permanent appointment with effect from the 1st January 2016.

If you have any queries or concerns you can contact me via the Clerk to Governors, Karen Frost on k.frost@fareham-academy.co.uk

Yours sincerely

Mrs E Webb

Chair of Governors
