— A Warm Welcome

English Workshop

On Sunday the 10 May, the English department held a drama workshop on Journey’s End in preparation for the GCSE English Literature exam, which they will sit on the 18 May. The actors who came were the actors from the Journey’s End performance we took the Year 11 students to see in September. The actors are renowned performers who are currently in performances in the West End so to have be able to hold this unique opportunity was truly exciting. We were also very fortunate to secure the Senior Director for the play from the Watermill Theatre who led the day and engaged the students for the whole four hours. The day was a huge success; we had over a hundred students turn up for the event and the day provided them with an opportunity to direct and discuss the dramatic effect of the play and to also analyse the key themes and symbolism; all of which must be written about in their exam. The feedback from students was extremely positive and the day was a huge success.

Gosport & Fareham Schools District Football

We would like to celebrate the success of two Year 8 students,  Matt Deane and Jacob Payne who were selected this time last year to play for Gosport & Fareham Schools District Football team.

It has been a successful year for the boys who have played against Havant, Portsmouth, Southampton and Aldershot District teams throughout the season.  On Saturday 9th May 2015 the boys were part of the winning team retaining the Oxford Cup with a 1-0 win over Southampton.

In addition to this we are pleased to announce the achievement of Matt Deane securing Most Improved Player award, while Jacob Payne secured the award for Player of the Season, a tremendous achievement for both of the boys representing Fareham Academy.

I am sure you will all join in and congratulate them on their achievement.

Year 11 Exam Period

The arrangements for year 11 during the exam period starting Monday 11th May are as follows:

· There will be no study leave for year 11.

· If students have completed all coursework, controlled assessment and exams they will need to attend each timetabled lesson prepared to revise.

We are committed to supporting your child up until the final exam therefore it is imperative that they attend every timetabled lesson. In past years students have relished this opportunity and this has had a significant impact on their exam results. We would like to thank you for your support in this matter.

Year 11 Seminar at Horndean Technology College

On April 23rd  38 year 11 students attended a Candle Education Seminar held at Horndean Technology College relating to their religious education exam. Fareham Academy proudly had the largest number of students attending the seminar and each and every student did the Academy proud in their overall conduct throughout the day.  It was a pleasure to take our students off site and represent the Academy in front of the prestigious speaker, Dr Peter Vardy.
